What: Genesian Players Workshop

 

When: This Thursday, October 10^th, 2013 right after school until 4:30 and other Thursdays TBD

Where: Meet outside of the little playground to walk to PLC. Pick up in front of school.

Who: All 6^th, 7^th and 8^th graders interested in performing in the Spring Musical are strongly encouraged to attend these workshops to prepare for auditions and rehearsals.

Why: We'll cover different aspects of acting basics and vocal technique each time we meet to better prepare you for auditioning and equip you with skills to make rehearsals more productive.

Sunday, April 7th

• 1:30 - 4:00pm Rehearsal of entire show with principals only. (Needed: Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Uncle Henry, Auntie Em, Glinda, The Wicked Witch, Miss Gulch, Professor/Oz, Doorman to Emerald City)

Friday, April 12th (during Parent-Teacher meetings)

• 12:15pm -3:30pm Rehearse full show with entire cast. We will serve lunch before the rehearsal (Pizza, water and cookies. If you prefer something different you are welcome to bring your own lunch)

Here's the schedule for the rest of this week and next week. We found out that Dr. Phillips High School shifted their audition times this coming Wednesday and some of our 8th graders will be auditioning for the theater magnet program there. So we are not going to hold practice then, but we'll combine this with our Sunday plans to keep the momentum going.

We will have a brief meeting to discuss costumes, upcoming schedule, volunteers, program ads and more. Please try to attend. If we have asked you to provide a green Ozian costume, please bring what you have so we can review it with you.

If your child is not scheduled for rehearsal on Sunday it might still be helpful for you to come for the parent meeting.

Crew Call

We need 6 (Six) students to help clear the stage and paint set pieces this Saturday (3/9/13) from 9am to noon in the PLC.  If you are interested, please sign up with Ms. Sell-Dane in the art room tomorrow.  Thanks.

Rehearsals 2/27/13 & 3/3/13

We had a great (although a long) rehearsal day yesterday. But boy, was it productive. Congratulations to all of the cast who have worked so hard to memorize their lines, learn the songs and remember the dances/choreography. We have all of Act 1 down! Now it is time to move on the the second half of the play, and we even got to start on that yesterday!

Wednesday 2/27/13

There will be no practice this Wednesday, 2/27/13 due to Focus 11 happening at the PLC all week.

Sunday 3/3/13

Since Sunday 3/3/13 is the day of Confirmation, we will have practice with a smaller group of principle characters in the cafeteria from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Those students should come to the back entrance of the school and we will be there to let you in the back gate near the cafeteria.The performers needed Sunday are: Dorothy, The Wicked Witch, The Lion, Tin Man, Scare Crow, The Guard at Oz (Zack Givens).

We will be blocking the remainder of Scene 8 and then Scene 10. Please be sure to bring your scripts and learn your lines in advance if you can.

Rehearsal Schedule for 2/20/13 and 2/24/13

We are pleased with the progress we are making with rehearsals. Can you believe it? We are already rehearsing the first half of the show on Sunday (Full Run Through of Act 1). That said, we want to remind all students that they are to be "off book" (no scripts in hand) for Sunday's rehearsal. Please memorize your lines AND the song lyrics so that you can come prepared to go through the show. If you don't know your lines, you will slow down the rest of the cast, so please MEMORIZE!

Since Sunday's rehearsal will be a long one, we suggest students bring a light snack and something to do for those times when they are not on stage (homework would be a good choice, or reading a book).

Rehearsals for 2/13 & 2/17

Great job to all on the Jitterbug number on Sunday. It is going to be a great number in the show.

Rehearsal on this Wednesday, February 13th is cancelled.

Rehearsals 1/30 & 2/3

Thanks to everyone who came yesterday. We had a great rehearsal with the principals and Munchkins. If you have not yet paid dues, please be sure to bring your check made out to Holy Family Catholic School or cash in an envelope marked with the GENESIANS to Ms. Sell-Dane. Dues are $25.00. The last day to pay dues is this Friday in order to receive a t-shirt.

The link on the right is a music file containing the songs from the show. Please download to become familiar with the songs. Everyone in the cast will sing, so it's important to practice the music.

If you are not scheduled on a Wednesday or Sunday, please use this time to learn your lines and listen to the music.  Also, if you are not scheduled to be at rehearsal, we ask that you not attend. We have lots of work to get done and limited rehearsal time.

The kids will take their yearbook picture and dues should be paid that day.  The dues are $25 made out to Holy Family School.  Parents of cast and crew who are only coming for the photo are welcomed to stay since this will only take 30 minutes. Please be on time since we are planing to take the picture promptly,  Students are to wear jeans or long pants and their green uniform school polo shirt.

Let The Rehearsals Begin

Dear Parents and Students,

A big THANK YOU to everyone who auditioned for parts or came to the ensemble meeting yesterday. We're so proud of our students. It took Brains, Heart, and Courage to go on stage and audition for a role and our kids did just that.

Our guest casting directors spent quite a while coming up with their recommendations and were impressed with the talent they saw. They asked us to remind you that every role is a starring role, and is important to tell our story. Please keep keep that in mind if you are cast in a role you may not have auditioned for. We are counting on you to make this show a success!

Here are a few notes on the first rehearsals:

Wizard Of Oz Auditions UPDATE

Just to be clear, membership in the Holy Family Genesian Players is limited to middle school students of HFCS (6th-8th graders). We apologize that point was not communicated in the school bulletin that went out.  For those younger students interested in the club, please come see the Wizard of Oz in April, and get ready to join the club when you enter the 6th grade!

We look forward to seeing our middle school students this Saturday, any time between 1 and 3pm in the PLC  (plan to spend about 15 minutes in the audition).  Remember, you need only prepare about 30 seconds of a song.  You'll be asked to read from teh script and join other students in singing part of a song from the show.

 OR, if you want to be in the chorus, there will be a brief meeting for chorus members at 3pm.
