2010 Genesian Players Workshop

Click here for > YouTube Download

Congratulations Genesian Players - Thank you all for attending the Workshop Experience, and what an experience it was.  We had a good turnout and great fun: we heard some great voices, saw some fancy footwork, and practiced a few funny lines.

Thank you to the choreographers extraordinare: Caroline Montz & Stephanie vanDijk, - to our Music-Director Stacey Bew, and to our Line-Coach/Producer Greg Montz for all their help and encouragement.

We will not be selecting the show title this week, but wait a few weeks to see what title options we can explore.  So stand-by and be ready to vote on-line.  Then in just under 2 months we will be holding auditions.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Blessed Holiday Season.

Workshop Experience - Reminder

Tomorrow we will be holding our Workshop Experience where the students can get a taste of whats in store for this coming year's Genesian Players.  Remember it's an informal (not mandatory) event to just get some performance exposure and for our techies to see what's in store for them.  Everyone who signed up should be attending only one of the three workshop times: 1-2p, 2-3p, 3-4p.  If you are a techie/stagehand, please arrive at either 1:30p, 2:30p, or 3:30p for a quick meeting.

Please do not leave your child with us past the time's scheduled - we cannot supervise kids not participating at the times assigned.

We look forward to seeing many smiling faces, cheerful voices, and happy feet (not Penguins).  If you have any last minute changes/questions, please feel free to call me on my cell at (407)421-5598.

Cheers!

Workshop Experience Update

It has come to my notice that my previous email about the Genesian 2012 Drama Workshop Experience, on November 20th, was posted as a mandatory event - this is a mistake caused by a man who has had little sleep the past 3 weeks.  So anyone who claims I promised them a dinner at Ruth's Chris is just taking advantage of this sleep deprived guy...

The workshop is NOT MANDATORY - but we realllly want to see you all there.  If you can't attend and still want a say in the show title, please mosey on over to the web-link below to preview the shows we are looking into.  Then send me a note on your 3 selections.  Note: we will even consider shows done in the past, just not too recently...

Genesian 2012 Drama Workshop Experience

Fellow Genesians,

In just under 2 weeks we will be holding our Genesian 2012 Drama Workshop Experience for students interested in performing in or assisting with the development of the 2012 Holy Family - Middle School Play.  On November 20th from 1pm to 4pm we will be gathering in the Parish Life Center (PLC) for an afternoon of singing, dancing, script-reading and general technical revelry.  Students who want to join us in this year’s show can attend one of the three 1-hour workshop opportunities.  This is not a mandatory event - but something we are previding to offer students a chance to experience what the Genesian Players Drama Club is all about.  You can show-up for any of the three times, all three workshops will be the same but we are offering the three times to accommodate everyone’s schedule.

Workshops are broken out into three 20-minute events:
v Dance | Choreography
v Singing | Voice
v Dialog | Acting

I cannot emphasize enough that experience is not necessary, just enthusiasm and the desire to perform in front of an eager supportive audience (OK, so some experience is always appreciated).  This is your child’s chance to learn something new and exciting, to stretch their legs so-to-speak, and to explore their inner expression – it is their chance to let their inhibitions float free, and their “Outside Voices” play inside without any criticism.

For those students who wish not to be seen on-stage, but prefer to be the “un-sung” heroes of the show – we need our techies to attend as well.  We need to know who can help us with the critical behind-the-scenes operations:
v Audio Support | Lighting Support | Stagehands | Runners
v Set Design | Painters | Poets | Carpenters
v Makeup | Wardrobe | Costumers

Additionally, we will be exploring the options for the show title to be performed.  I will be offing several titles for the kids to mull over and then we will select three choices that the kids will vote upon over the Thanksgiving break.  The winner will be announced, with much fanfare, the day after Thanksgiving – Black Friday…  (Oooooo, ominous).  So if your child want’s a say in the show they put-on, they need to attend the Workshop Experience.

Finally, it is you our school parents we need to meet and recruit.  We are always in need of help and support with the production process and procedures: from preproduction to the closing-night’s cleanup.  We need costume makers, food donations at rehearsals, special effects crazies, cat-herders, promotions and ticket sellers, cat-herders, party planners, and technical novices thru experts… and, if I didn’t mention it enough, cat-herders; trying to keep 30~40 kids engaged and under control while maintaining an atmosphere of fun and productivity is a most difficult task.  Please, join us and help us make the experience an enjoyable and memorable experience.

We all look forward to meeting with this year’s Genesian Players.  Please sign-up online here (Workshop Signup) or use the form that Pam will send home.

Regards,

Curtis (brevity is not my middle name, so get used to it) Sponsler
